ASM International President Tours Solar Atmospheres

The president of ASM International, Dr. Gernant E. Maurer, FASM, recently toured the Solar Atmospheres heat treating facility in Souderton, PA. Dr. Maurer spent time exploring all aspects of vacuum heat treating, nitriding and vacuum carburizing and marveled at the variety of materials and configurations in various stages of processing. Of particular interest was the state-of-the-art metallurgical lab with new Struers precision cutting, mounting and polishing equipment and cabinetry.  Upon entering,  Dr. Mauer reminisced about metallurgical sample preparation and examination from an earlier stage in his career.  In addition to seeing a variety of vacuum furnaces in operation, Dr. Mauer was also able to get a first-hand look at vacuum furnace assembly and systems integration at sister company Solar Manufacturing. Roger Jones, president of Solar Atmospheres, notes, “We were honored to host Dr. Maurer and give him an in-depth look at our thermal processing operations.”
