Water Quench Heat Treating

Western Pennsylvania Facility

Water quench heat treating primarily for solution treating (ST) titanium bars, titanium forgings, and other large titanium components. The furnace features a 14-foot-long × 54-inch-wide × 48-inch-high workload envelope.

Following the heat treatment cycle, parts are rapidly transferred into the 11,000-gallon recirculating, agitated water quench tank within a five- to seven-second quench delay. This rapid transfer and uniform quenching process provide the fast, consistent cooling required to achieve the metallurgical properties demanded by aerospace, defense, and other high-performance industrial applications.

With its exceptional heating uniformity and advanced quenching capabilities, this system is one of the fastest-cooling furnaces in the Solar Atmospheres fleet of furnaces, and one of only a few of its kind in the United States.
