Solar Atmospheres, Inc., specialists in vacuum heat treating will open a new operations facility in the spring of 2001.  Currently located in Souderton, 40 miles north of Philadelphia, Solar will add a new facility in Hermitage, PA close to the Ohio border.  The plant will be 60 miles from Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

With increased work from this region, the new facility will service several large titanium processors and other metals markets.  The plant will house Solar’s new 24 foot long vacuum furnace with hearth capacity of 50,000 lbs.  The furnace will be operational in the spring of 2001.

Bob Hill, currently Vice President of Heat Treating at Solar’s Souderton facility, will relocate to oversee and manage the new facility.  Bob Sandora, currently Maintenance Manager in Souderton, will also relocate to oversee plant operations.

Bob Hill, commenting on the role of the new plant states, “Solar specializes in vacuum heat treating and the facility sets new benchmarks for this service.  The ‘super sized’ furnace offers a new processing resource for metal industries.  Furnace capacity enables heavier loads and longer lengths to be vacuum heat treated for manufacturing efficiency. “
