New Option for Furnace Fixtures/Furniture
Solar Atmospheres, Inc, Souderton, PA is a commercial heat treater specializing in vacuum processing, and is successfully using coated graphite furnace fixturing and setter plates for processing parts. The graphite fixturing is coated with titanium carbide (TiC). Solar has utilized the TiC coated graphite in sintering and heat treating applications.
Solar’s experience with the TiC coated graphite includes setter plates that have routinely experienced temperatures in the range of 2450°F. The combination of graphite with TiC coating provides a non-warping setter plate that prevents part contamination. Production operations have demonstrated no adverse interaction of graphite jigs, fixtures, furniture, setter or hearth plates with various metals. The smooth and polished finish of TiC coating also allows the graphite fixturing to be wiped clean.
Solar does its TiC coating and offers the service to companies using ceramic or graphite parts. In addition to graphite fixture applications, TiC coated parts greatly extend surface wear life. TiC coating has a hardness that ranges up to 3200kg/mm2, one of the hardest of engineering materials.
