Not exactly. While many Military (MIL) specifications and Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) cover similar heat treatment requirements, they are not always interchangeable.

Over the years, many legacy MIL specifications have been revised, superseded, or replaced by AMS specifications developed by SAE International. However, many defense contracts and engineering drawings still reference specific MIL specifications or particular revision levels that must be followed.
